Royal Mail Relocation Plans4.50.00pm GMT Tue 26th Aug 2008 On Wednesday [27th August] the Royal Mail will set out their plans for relocating the sorting office from central Twickenham to a new site on Rugby Road. The plans will be displayed at the RFU. Their aim is to achieve a move in 12 to 18 months which will then free up the sorting office site for redevelopment, potentially the biggest and most important in the borough for some considerable time. Vincent Cable said: "I doubt that the move to Rugby Road will be controversial in planning terms but the subsequent development will be. It is also a big opportunity to improve the statin and the area around it. Various ideas have been circulating including a cinema and leisure complex. One option which is bound to be under consideration is a new centre of operations for the police, including a custody suite. After the rejection of the Teddington option another site is being urgently sought".
